Natural or man-made disasters can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone.  When a sudden disaster strikes, you may not have time to prepare.  Town officials and first responders will be on the scene after a disaster but may not be able to reach everyone right away.  Knowing what to do is your best protection.  Careful emergency preparedness planning helps ensure you’ll have what you need to get through an emergency.
Find out what types of natural disasters are most likely to happen and create a disaster plan.  Meet with your family and discuss why you need to prepare for a disaster. In Bristol and Burlington, we face hurricanes in the late summer and fall, strong winter storms with severe winter cold weather, extreme heat and the potential for power failures in the summer.  Your ability to react to a local disaster, and to care for yourself, your family, and pets during such an event, will depend upon advance planning and preparation that includes time for practice. It’s important that the plan includes everyone you might be responsible for in the event of an emergency.
Please click on 2025 Preparedness Calendar | Ready.gov to get specifics on planning for these disasters.  There will be multiple links you can click on to get more specific information, planning tools, etc.  They will be in both English and Spanish.  We have also included the 2025 Ready.gov Preparedness Calendar, which can be used as a reference as you work to keep yourself and your family prepared month by month.
